Subject: VISA billing computer, you suck at non-life and life
note: numbers are approximate
just spent some time trying to figure out why the hell my bill was magically $1650, $450 than it should be. broke out the calculator (pff, not a real one) with my nifty calculator button (microsoft keyboard ftw!), punched in a bunch of about 30 almost right numbers (13.84 == 14 and 6.15 == 6) and finally wondered, "why is my number 500 lower?!" couldnt help but wonder if i had punched in something terribly wrong, so i did a quick install of gnumeric (ms excel clone) and pasted in a column of number and it was $450 below the bill. being at the "ok, wtf?" level, i called el creditcardo company. a maze of options and voice commands like "representative," "agent" and "operator" didnt do shit. those are the magic words that will get you a human 99% of the time. thanks, you one percenters. >:( moving on. found the closest thing i could and got a person, explained the situation and after lots of looking up info on their computer and convoluted answers, i finally found out what happened. i canceled an online order for $800 and the whole system just started lying to me about it.
this is what the visa computer did:
here is what the visa computer told me:
so anyone with basic math skills knows that -$2000 + $800 == -$1200. seriously? SERIOUSLY?! wtf, visa computer? WTF?!

this is what the visa computer did:
- May
- normal amount: -$450
- include refunded: +$800
- balance: -$450 + +$800 == +$350
- action: give credit : +$350
- June
- expected amount: -$1200
- include -$800 charge
- normal amount: -$1200 + -$800 == -$2000
- balance: +$350 + -$2000 == -$1650
- action: give charge : -$1650
here is what the visa computer told me:
- May
- refunds: +$0
- charge amount: -$450
- balance: -$450
- June
- refunds: +$800
- charge amount: -$2000
- balance: -$1650
so anyone with basic math skills knows that -$2000 + $800 == -$1200. seriously? SERIOUSLY?! wtf, visa computer? WTF?!
