It's very interesting, but it doesn't really appeal to me the same way it apparently does to you.  While there are some parts of it I like, Several things about it bug me: the blacked out face, the spotted tongue, the cropping.

Oh I completely agree, there's so much wrong with it, it just struck me, hence the 'For some reason'.
Perhaps it's because at first glance it's reminiscent of a space view of the Earth.
It is heavily stylised to the point of looking fake, but it interests me nonetheless.
