eldritch evils. There's a J-pop group out there called AKB48 that has, for reasons
best left unexplored, 48 members. They generally perform in three split teams of
16 each, which doesn't make it a third less absurd. Picture:

That's...  Seriously...  I mean, wow.  How is that logistically a good idea?  When they perform are they in the same building, or linked by video from 3 places large enough to hold one 16-girl segment at a time?

I can just see them arriving on HeyHeyHey Mucic Champ, and half the show is just a stream of giggling wide-eyed girls pouring out a door onto the stage.

How bizarre.

Kotaku reports on a PSP bundle with an AKB48 theme. The thing that makes it art is the UMD case sleeve insert collection, which allows you to put any one band member on the front of the case.

I was really quite surprised to find these girls everywhere when I was in Japan.  I think they were on one of four ads on TV every night.  For a manufactured phenomenon it's quite successful.
